| Tens of thousands of Sydneysiders flocked to the harbour foreshore - while thousands more were trackside onboard more than 1200 spectactor boats - to witness Maritimo power to its fifth consecutive win this season. Racing around the 9km closed circuit at speeds in excess of 200km/h, Class One rivals Simrad and Impact Steel finished in second and third places respectively. In the Supercat Outboard class, Saracen also upheld its unbeaten record this season, racing into first place ahead of Red Bellies and Global Racing. Elders was victorious in the Supercat Outboard Lite class, followed by Ezy Does It and Team 3. In the Super Vee Lite class, Force Boats finished first, with Connelly Performance Boats and Random filling the remaining podium positions. Offshore Superboat Championships race director Russell Embleton said he was extremely happy with the inaugural event on Sydney Harbour. 'There were no issues with race operations and everything today went accordingly to plan', Mr Embleton said. 'The sport of offshore powerboat racing has been very warmly welcomed by the people of Sydeny...the crowds were just amazing - certainly the largest we've seen for a powerboat race in this country. 'Sydney Harbour has definately proved itself as a perfect race destination, for competitors and spectators alike, and is well worthy to hose a leg of the World Powerboat Championship.'
