Benford 34 Sailing Dory, excellent live a board boat, very spacious.
Benford 34 Sailing Dory ‘Badger’,Designed in 1978 by Benford from a classic 1930’s junk rig design, this particular vessel ‘Trisha’ was launched in 2008 in Melbourne by its current owner. This design won acclaim for several substantial sea voyages including sailing the Atlantic, and is popular in Europe as a coastal cruiser. The 6’ 4’’ headroom and full beam saloon is ideal for a comfortable live a board, enhanced by the large galley space and good sized head. Most boats this size do not offer the volume of useable living space that make this an ideal boat for a couple, but also suitable for up to 5 to sleep on board. The low maintenance west system resin and cloth sheathed ply over Oregon frames offers low weight for its size, resulting in 5 knots upwind and 11 knots downwind performance from the flat bottom , tapered fin keel, and twin Junk schooner rig. The masts are solid 16 ring pine with no joins, very strong, but still flexible. The bow area is designed with a collision bulkhead and the shallow draft of just 1.4M gets you into all of the best anchorages in Australia. Complete with 17 HP Yanmar diesel, run via sail drive propulsion, she has fuel capacity for approximately 10 hours of continuous running. With an equipment level commensurate with price including: 12/240 volt systems, inverter, battery charger, Raymarine GPS, VHF radio, C.D. Stereo, Gas 2 burner stove, 40L 12/240 fridge/freezer; this unique boat is very complete and ready for you to move in and go sailing. Currently berthed in Williamstown, the existing marina berth is available as an on-going berthing option, should you choose to live a board in Melbourne.
