Cayzer 40, Classic Gentlemans Cruiser, superb vessel from bow to stern, methodical restoration and modernization, perfect weekender with real crusing credability.
Cayzer 40, Classic Gentleman’s Cruiser, built in 1980 from Huon Pine for the defence department, fully restored and modernised from the hull up by the current owner in 1995, twin caterpillar 3208’s, 210 HP , shaft drive & twin rudders; the 6.5Kva Mase Genset runs the aircon/ heating and provides 240 power when away from the dock; Everywhere you look there is beautiful timber with at least 8 different species including: Celerytop decks, Cedar upper deck beams, Myrtle and Anigre veneer finishes and blackwood furniture in the saloon all finished off with sumptuous leather lounges, 2 moveable tub chairs and overall tastefully completed décor; and of course the solid Ironbark keel serves as the backbone for Spotted Gum ribs under the superb Huon Pine hull. I am sure there are other timbers to be found hiding in the precise detail evident throughout this lovely vessel, but to concentrate on that one aspect of the experience would not do justice to rest of the work undertaken by the fastidious owner. The galley, for example, is set up as a modern entertainer’s kitchen with plenty of bench and cupboard space including a clever roller door over the large pantry, a big 12/240V fridge, roasting microwave and a dishwasher. The 70 litre pressure hot water operates an independent pump from the cold water system to ensure consistent temperature and impressive pressure, something that is also useful when having a long hot shower at the end of a hard day of relaxing. The spacious head, which also boasts a vacuflush toilet system and holding tank, has plenty of head and elbowroom to enjoy that nice hot shower and the accommodation is perfect for a couple, with good storage, plenty of ventilation, light and airey with more than enough elbow room when getting changed into your swimmers, all in your private V-berth cabin. The saloon is bigger than most boats this size, with good ventilation and light via big sliding windows and features a 40 ‘ LED TV and of course a stereo system commensurate with a boat of this caliber. The generous open cockpit lends itself to having a casual fish, but it might be a shame to mess up the beautiful timber decks, so just move the brand new storm covers & clears or maybe it is easier to sit out the back and fish from the foldaway duck board. Better still; launch the quicksilver inflatable with 5.0 outboard from the stainless davits and explore to your heart’s content. The helm is a masterpiece with everything at the skipper’s fingertips; adjustable floor height for sitting or standing, clear view windscreen and the same comfortable leather on the double helm seat as the saloon lounges. The full electronics suite with Lowrance HDS10 GPS, radar, fluxgate compass, autopilot, sounder, log, 27Mhz and VHF radios will get you to your destination with ease. Longer stays on board are well catered for with a eutectic fridge freezer, 3000watt inverter, cruising alternator for high output charging and Led lighting throughout. You could eat off the engine room floor! It is the neatest engine room I have seen in long time, with good access; and while the pristine yellow Cats take center stage, other features such as stainless exhaust boxes, pressurized stuffing boxes, stainless tanks with 2600ltrs of fuel & 800ltrs of water and the obvious attention detail with neat wiring and plumbing and tool storage really impressed. Other important features include: a Simpson Lawrence anchor winch with helm and deck switches, bilge fume alarm, auto battery charger and monitor, triple bilge pumps on separate circuits, great forward access on the side decks to the bow, oversized stainless railing and storage absolutely everywhere. If you are looking for a capable cruiser that is equally suited as a no hassle day cruiser/entertainer or well set up for longer stays on board and love the romance of classic lines and timber, this is the one. Built from the world’s best boat building timber, brimming with stainless and polished bright work she is indeed impressive; but equally, she is a capable vessel with a surprising turn of speed, while the robust & well thoughtout engineering guarantees reliable boating. If you consider yourself a fussy buyer then ‘Trilogy’ is too good to ignore.
